This episode is a public service announcement to the podcasting community. There is a scam out there under the name of “Tribal Messenger Daily” and “World Author’s Conference”, and it is targeting podcasts and podcast authors. They go as far as making a Faceboook fan page for authors’ work (which effectively puts authors’ faces on their brand without permission, with a clear goal of using authors’ reputations to scam their own audiences). If you get a mail saying “you’ve been selected as one of the TOP 50 PODCASTS FOR AUTHORS!” or a podcast or blog equivalent, do not let your excitement of an “award” blind you from what this is, a serious threat to your hard earned reputation with your audience. Abbie and Bryan talk about all of this as they dig into the seedy details.

I sent them the following message yesterday:
Hi, Ernest.
I’m not comfortable with what you’re doing or selling. I’m declining this award. Please give my place to the runner up, remove me from your list, and delete the Facebook fan page. As you surely know from looking at my website, monetization is not “the name of the game” for me. I make money when people buy my books. That’s all. There are no ads on my site for a reason. I am exceedingly uncomfortable with you putting my face all over a fan page that seems to connect me with your marketing and products.
Thank you for removing me from your list.
Abbie
